Professionalism - dealing with throw away code

I came across this blog entry talking about writing new code that you believe will be thrown away in the near future. Michael Features talks about the professionalism that should be shown whenever we are working on code. I was once told by a salesman that "perception IS reality". If we perceive that some code is going to be thrown away, the natural tendency is to spend just enough time to get it working and no more, and therefore the reality to us is that the code is only fit to be thrown away. This of course is not a good course of action because as Feathers points out - you never know what lies ahead.
